For this unit, we had to choose a piece of artwork from the North Carolina Museum of Art and create another piece inspired by that piece. The artwork that I chose was called "Judith and Holofernes," by Kehinde Wiley. It depicted an African American woman holding the decapitated head of a white woman, which I thought was a really interesting concept for a painting. I combined it with the idea of an Audobon painting to create my piece. Kehinde Wiley depicted a powerful yet graceful woman in his painting, which is what I wanted to do with mine. In my painting, the woman appears to be graceful, as shown in her clothing and her hair, but she has an air of power around her by standing next to a majestic bird like a peacock. The background of my painting was also inspired by Kehinde Wiley's paintings, with a colorful floral pattern.
